Blank Plates FAQ's

What is a blank plate used for?

A blank plate covers an electrical back box when a switch, socket, or other fitting is no longer required. It leaves the wall looking finished without leaving the back box exposed.

What's the difference between a single and double blank plate?

The only difference is the size. A single blank plate is designed for a standard single back box, while a double blank plate covers a larger double back box. Check the size of your existing back box before ordering.

Can I fit a blank plate over an existing socket?

A blank plate can be used when an existing electrical point is no longer needed, but the wiring behind it needs to be safely dealt with before the plate is fitted. If you're removing or altering an electrical connection, have a qualified electrician carry out the work.
